Joe is an experienced scientific leader in drug discovery and development with a track record of value creation across his numerous roles in the pharmaceutical industry. Previously, Joe served as CSO of Second Genome from 2021 until its dissolution in 2023 and recreation as Genevive, Inc. Joe also served as the Vice President and Executive Director/Site Head of Centers for Therapeutic Innovation – California at Pfizer, where he led and oversaw the design and development of numerous candidate medicines from concept to clinical stage across various therapeutic indications. Before, Pfizer CTI, Joe was a Group Leader and Principal Research Scientist at Roche Palo Alto, where he led discovery and development efforts and managed cross-functional teams supporting autoimmune, oncology and inflammatory disease programs within the company’s portfolio.
At Genevive, Joe is responsible for day-to-day operations and is leading the development of all development programs in collaboration with external partners, in addition to overseeing all other drug discovery initiatives as they become active programs. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from The Johns Hopkins University, earned his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and conducted extensive postdoctoral research at the National Jewish Health Institute in Denver, CO. Joe is co-inventor on several patents for compounds currently in clinical development.
